Sparkling Wine Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs 2018. Schramsberg has a reputation for making exceptional sparkling wines thanks to this sensational bubbly which was first made in 1965. At the time it was the first dry sparkling wine made from Chardonnay to be sold in the US. The Blanc de Blancs became even more famous in 1972 when it was served by President Nixon at the Toast to Peace” dinner held in Beijing. To create this sparkling wine Schramsberg uses small lots of wines that have been fermented in oak barrels to add extra complexity and a rich, creamy texture. The wine then undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, the same process used to make Champagne in France, and is left to mature on the lees for two years before disgorging. This long ageing period helps to create a refined and graceful sparkling wine with plenty of tiny bubbles, hints of toast and vanilla spice, and a medium body. On the palate there are ample notes of bright lime, grapefruit, green apple and apricot unlaid with honeysuckle, ginger and honey. The complex yet refreshing flavour profile make this a great wine to serve as an aperitif or to enjoy with everything from oysters and ceviche to spicy Thai curries, grilled sea bass, or roast chicken.

Sparkling Wine Carpene Malvolti Prosecco Rose Brut 2020. Carpenè Maltovi is a prestigious winery in Treviso, run by the highly influential Carpenè family. The Carpenès do not stop at wine-making – they are scholars of oenology and have been contributing to the topic for generations. Founder Antonio Carpenè founded one of Italy’s first oenological schools in 1876, and was one of the original producers of Italian sparkling wine. Five generations later, the winery is under the leadership of Rosanna Carpenè, aided by her father Etile. Together they continue Carpenè Maltovi’s legacy, in creating a delicious range of Prosecco wine. Foaming with pale pink bubbles, this Rosé Brut is made from Glera and 15% Pinot Noir. It is splendidly aromatic, bearing notes of strawberries and rich apples, and hints of wildflowers. It was made in the Charmat style, to emphasise the natural floral and fruity scents of the grapes. It is round and juicy in the mouth, with harmonious and easy-drinking fruit flavours and a backbone of lively acidity. This is a wine that opens up several food-pairing options and will complement any white meats or fish, vegetable dishes, spicy food, or mild cheeses.

Sparkling Wine Bianchin Asolo Prosecco Rose Brut 2020. Overlooking the Venetian Plains, there is a low-lying oval-shaped hill, called the Montello. This is where you can find the Bianchin Montello estate, a family winery dedicated to crafting top-quality Prosecco wines. The wider Montello region is better known for Bordeaux-style reds, but in the direction of the town of Asolo, sparkling whites are also produced. Asolo is known as the Pearl of Treviso and offers the perfect terroir for crafting utterly excellent spumante Prosecco. All of Bianchin Montello’s finest offerings come from a single vineyard, Vigna di Castelsotterra, a sun-baked site in the heart of Montello. Made mostly from Glera, with a portion of Pinot Noir, this Brut Rosé is an attractive bright pink in colour. Its bouquet is intensely fruity, releasing notes of peach, pomegranate, strawberry and citrus rind. It shows fine perlage, vibrant pink foam, and a round and velvety texture in the mouth. The flavour strikes a balance between lively fruits and pleasant, refreshing acidity. This rosé is meant to be savoured and is perfect for those who want something delicious alongside their dinner. It is the ideal company for seafood or mildly flavoured dishes.
